The Saboba District Assembly has formally requested support from the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) for the drilling of 20 mechanised boreholes across selected communities in the district, as part of the Authority’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
In a letter dated 31st October 2025 and signed by the District Chief Executive, Hon. George Wumbei Billimor, the Assembly highlighted the severe challenges residents face in accessing clean and safe drinking water. According to the Assembly, many communities in the district currently rely on contaminated water sources, exposing residents to waterborne diseases and serious health risks.

The Assembly expressed confidence that the provision of boreholes would significantly improve access to potable water, enhance public health outcomes, and improve the overall well-being of residents in the district. It further noted that the intervention aligns with the Ghana Maritime Authority’s commitment to community development and social responsibility.
The request was directed to the Director-General of the Ghana Maritime Authority through the Minister for Transport, Hon. Bukari Nikpe (MP), with an appeal for urgent intervention to address the water crisis in the affected communities.
A list of 20 beneficiary communities was attached to the request, underscoring the widespread nature of the water challenge within the Saboba District. The Assembly expressed optimism that the intervention would bring lasting relief to residents and contribute to sustainable development in the area.
