Residents from Asamankese, Akwatia, Boadua, Kade, New Abirem, and other towns in the Eastern Region are raising alarms about the deteriorating state of an 85-year-old bridge that links their communities. They are calling for immediate repairs or a complete replacement of the bridge, which they describe as a dangerous hazard.

In an interview with Adom News, residents emphasized the urgency of addressing the bridge’s condition. They believe that reconstruction is necessary rather than just temporary fixes to prevent potential accidents.

Davor Wonder, an engineer with the Denkyembour District Assembly, has urged residents to be patient. He noted that while he had previously informed the Ghana Highways Authority about the bridge’s poor state, the district lacks the funds for a new bridge. However, he confirmed that the Ghana Highways Authority, along with the Assembly, has started rehabilitation work on the existing bridge.

Additionally, Henry Boakye Yiadom, the Member of Parliament for the Akwatia constituency, has visited the site and committed to ensuring that the bridge is repaired.
