Residents in several communities within the Tema East district, including Saki-Bediako, Michel Camp, and Golf City, are grappling with a severe water shortage. For the past three days, these areas have been without running water, significantly impacting daily life.
Local residents have voiced their frustration and are calling on the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) to urgently address the situation and provide an explanation for the extended disruption.
Sampson Ampah, the Public Relations Officer for GWCL in the Tema Region, acknowledged the issue, noting that it affects a broad area, including Saki-Bediako, Golf City, Kpone, parts of Tema, Community 25, and Michel Camp.
Ampah explained, “We’re dealing with a large catchment area. For the past four days, water has not been flowing in these regions. The situation is dire, and even military installations in Michel Camp are affected. It’s quite serious.”
He added that there has been no prior notice or information about potential issues with the water lines, leaving residents unprepared. “We have not received any communication regarding the water line issues or how long it might take to resolve them. It’s extremely challenging for residents to cope without water. We need clarity on the situation so that people can make necessary preparations,” Ampah said.
