Chief of Lafah Criticizes Anti-Galamsey Protest, Calls for Focus on Affected Areas

Nii Ayi Okofuobour, Chief of Lafah in the Weija Gbawe Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, has spoken out against the recent Democracy Hub protest targeting illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey.
The chief asserted that there are no illegal mining activities within any community in Accra, urging protesters to redirect their efforts toward chiefs, Regional Ministers, and Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in areas where galamsey is actually causing environmental harm.
In an interview with Adom News, Nii Okofuobour condemned the demonstrators for creating unnecessary traffic congestion and damaging property during their protest. He encouraged law enforcement to take action against such disruptions to deter future occurrences.
Furthermore, the chief advised Ghanaians to avoid politicizing the fight against illegal mining, cautioning that such actions could give the real culprits an opportunity to continue their destructive activities unchecked.
