“In the current crisis in which we are, I would not stand here and promise that we will build a new stadium,” Mahama stated. “However, under the big push, we intend to allocate a certain amount of money over five years to provide good infrastructure, including roads, bridges, agro-industrial parks, and so on. This could potentially include sports facilities. If we make the necessary allocation, then we might consider providing such a stadium.”

The Borteyman Sports Complex and the University of Ghana Stadium, both built for the 2023 African Games, are currently in good shape to host the competition, with hopes of being maintained properly for future events.

Mahama, the former president, will face competition from Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming elections slated for December 2024.
