Ghana’s Minister for Communications, Samuel Nartey George, has announced that data bundle allocations will increase across all mobile networks, starting July 1, 2025, following successful negotiations with telecom operators.
At a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, the minister revealed that the adjustments are aimed at offering better value for consumers and strengthening digital access nationwide.
“I am pleased to announce that my engagement with the CEOs has resulted in the following specific measures,” George stated.
Here’s what the new changes mean:
- AT Ghana (AirtelTigo): A 10% increase on all data bundles. For example, the GH₵400 bundle will rise from 195GB to 236GB.
- Telecel Ghana: Also implementing a 10% increase, its GH₵400 bundle will leap from 90GB to 250GB—a significant upgrade.
- MTN Ghana: Will apply a 15% increase across its packages and restore the GH₵399 bundle to 214GB, reversing a previous reduction to GH₵350 for 92.88GB.
Minister George acknowledged that the changes might impose costs on the service providers but praised their willingness to prioritize consumers’ needs.
“These increases come at a considerable cost to the network operators,” he said, “but I’m encouraged by their commitment to national development.”
He expressed appreciation to the telecom CEOs for their collaboration, describing the development as a milestone in public-private cooperation in the digital sector.
The data increase initiative is part of broader government efforts to enhance digital inclusion and affordability, aligning with Ghana’s long-term vision of becoming a leading digital economy in Africa.
