A heartbreaking incident has struck the town of Kwahu Praso in the Eastern Region, where a 14-year-old Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidate has died during the examination week.

The deceased, Jennifer Osei Nyamah, was a pupil of the Kwahu Praso Preparatory School. She passed away on the morning of Thursday, June 12, 2025—just the second day into the nationwide examination.

Her father, Gordon Osei, recounted that Jennifer complained of a severe headache before the start of the exams on Wednesday. Despite the discomfort, she completed that day’s papers and was later taken to a nearby clinic for medical attention. Unfortunately, her condition worsened overnight, and she was rushed to the Holy Family Hospital in Nkawkaw, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The Municipal Education Director, Williams Frimpong, described the incident as deeply tragic and offered condolences to the grieving family. He also urged Jennifer’s fellow candidates to remain focused and complete their exams despite the emotional toll.

Some of Jennifer’s classmates expressed shock and sadness over her sudden death, noting that their teachers had provided words of comfort and encouraged them to stay calm in the wake of the tragedy.

The loss of young Jennifer has cast a somber shadow over the ongoing BECE in the municipality, with the community mourning the untimely death of a promising student.
