The National Service Authority (NSA) has announced plans to introduce military training for all National Service personnel as part of a new initiative to promote discipline, patriotism, and resilience among young graduates.
Speaking on Prime Morning News Flash, Deputy Director General Fuseini Donkor explained that the programme seeks to strengthen the sense of national duty and service among participants.
He disclosed that while all National Service personnel will undergo the training, nurses and teachers will receive special attention beginning next year, owing to the crucial roles they play in shaping the nation’s future.
“Nurses and teachers are the most important in this field. From next year, all teachers and nurses will be going through military training,” he said.
Mr Donkor emphasised that these professions are central to Ghana’s development because they directly impact both the mind and health of citizens.
“Special attention will be given to these two essential service providers because they deal with the mind and the health of our nation. If the nurse is properly psyched, your health is in safe hands; if the teacher is psyched, the minds of our children are in safe hands,” he added.
The training will include basic military drills and introductory weapon-handling techniques, conducted under the supervision of the Ghana Armed Forces.
Mr Donkor clarified that the programme will not apply to senior high school students, as most are under 18 years old.
He further noted that some universities have already introduced similar paramilitary drills as part of their extracurricular activities, although the Ghana Armed Forces is yet to release the official training manual for nationwide implementation.
