Haruna Iddrisu launches the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz, urging schools to bring their best to the competition.

The 2025 edition of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) has been officially launched, setting the stage for what promises to be another thrilling season of intellectual rivalry among Ghana’s brightest students.

The grand launch ceremony, held on Wednesday, October 15, brought together education stakeholders, students, alumni, and media personnel in an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation. The balloting exercise conducted at the event determined the official match-ups for this year’s competition.

Speaking at the launch, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu encouraged participating schools to approach the competition with determination and teamwork.

“Let the bragging begin!” he declared with a smile — a statement that captured the enthusiasm and pride surrounding the nation’s most prestigious academic event.

This year’s contest marks a historic milestone, featuring 174 participating schools — the highest number in NSMQ history.

The preliminary stage of the competition is scheduled for October 20–24, featuring the opening contest between Ofori Panyin Senior High School, Kpando Senior High School, and Awe Senior High Technical School.

Subsequent stages will follow as outlined below:

  • One-Eighth Stage: October 26–28
  • Quarter-Finals: October 30
  • Semi-Finals: November 3
  • Grand Final: November 6

At the launch, Achimota School Choir set the tone with a vibrant musical performance, ushering in the NSMQ 2025 season in grand style.

Produced by Primetime Limited and organized in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), the NSMQ remains Ghana’s longest-running and most-watched academic competition, inspiring excellence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

This year’s event enjoys the support of major sponsors, including:
