Dampare Thanks Police Officers for Their Role in Securing AU Summit

IGP Dr George Akuffo Dampare

On July 22, 2024, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare issued a statement expressing gratitude to police officers who provided security for the recent AU summit. He praised their professionalism and dedication, stating:

  • “We are grateful to you for your professionalism and patriotic commitment to duty.”
  • The IGP also thanked the general public for their cooperation during the summit, adding, “We also wish to thank all motorists, the commuting public, and all other road users for your patience and cooperation.”

Additionally, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia commended the IGP for transformative initiatives within the Police Service. Speaking at the commissioning of the Ghana Police Service Shop at the Police Headquarters on July 17, 2024, Dr. Bawumia highlighted:

  • The visible and impactful improvements under the IGP’s leadership.
  • Achievements include a facelift of the National Police Headquarters, expansion of the Formed Police Unit (FPU) to all 25 police regions, and enhanced police visibility.
  • Initiatives such as decentralisation of police background checks, active community engagements, and the Snatch Them Young Policing Initiative.
  • The Vice President praised the IGP and the Police Management Board for their efforts and urged them to maintain their momentum, especially with the upcoming general election on December 7th.

The newly commissioned Police Shop provides officers with the opportunity to purchase additional uniform items and institutional souvenirs, ensuring they are well-equipped and maintain a professional appearance.
