Interior Minister Henry Quartey has announced revised curfew hours for Bawku Municipality and its surrounding areas in the Upper East Region.
In a press release, the Ministry of the Interior stated that the adjustment was made based on recommendations from the Upper East Regional Security Council and enacted through an Executive Instrument. The updated curfew will now be from 10:00 pm to 4:00 am, starting Tuesday, July 23, 2024. This change is intended to better address ongoing security concerns in the region.
The government has called on local leaders, including chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and residents, to remain calm and avoid violence during this period. The statement emphasized the need for peaceful dialogue and cooperation to resolve conflicts and maintain safety within the community.
“The Interior Minister, following advice from the Upper East Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument, has revised the curfew hours for Bawku Municipality and its surroundings to 10:00 pm to 4:00 am, effective Tuesday, July 23, 2024,” the statement read.
“Government urges all stakeholders to practice restraint and focus on non-violent methods to ensure peace and stability,” it continued.
