The endorsement coming from these well-respected personalities among the chieftaincy institutions in Ghana is a clear testament that the traditional sector has also thrown its full weight behind Dr. Bawumia, and this approval by all these influential leaders does not only serve to reinforce the campaign of Dr. Bawumia but rather underlines the traditional authority in Ghanaian politics.
Here are four chiefs who have publicly thrown their support behind Dr. Bawumia for the presidency:
Greater Accra Chiefs:
Chiefs in the Greater Accra Region have expressed confidence in the ability of the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to lead the country.
The Paramount Chief of Nungua and Acting President of the Greater Accra House of Chiefs, Oboade Notse King Professor Odaifio Welentsi III, commended Dr. Bawumia for his composed, calm character and charged him to keep his temper alive.
It is their belief that Dr. Bawumia, the NPP presidential candidate in the December 2024 elections, has the potential for effective leadership.
The House of Chiefs said the leadership style of Dr Bawumia was a departure from the violent and radical approaches exhibited by some past leaders.
Nadowli-Kaleo Chiefs:
Five Paramount Chiefs from the Nadowli-Kaleo District in the Upper West Region of Ghana have declared their support for Dr. Bawumia’s presidential bid.
During a campaign event at Kaleo on 24th July 2024, the Chiefs lauded the effort of the government and declared their unflinching support for Dr. Bawumia.
They said, “Mr Vice President, we pledge the support of the Chiefs and good people of Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency to vote massively for you to become the President of the Republic of Ghana.”
The Chiefs believe in the leadership and vision of Dr. Bawumia for national development.
Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs:
The traditional leaders embraced the vision of Dr. Bawumia for Ghana and his policies, hence rallying behind him to clinch the presidency.
In Goaso, during a meeting with the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, Dr. Bawumia set his vision for Ghana and what policies he hoped to put in place.
Nana Ansah Adu Baah, the Omanhene of the Yamfo Traditional Area, in hailing the humility and policies of Dr. Bawumia, said they are good for the country and the next generation.
He encouraged support for Dr. Bawumia, emphasizing his potential to promote peace and unity.
Ashanti Chiefs:
The Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs said it held Dr Bawumia in high esteem and admiration.
Dr Bawumia visited the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs to interact with the traditional rulers and share his vision and policies for Ghana.
Mamponghene Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, the second in command in Asanteman, told Citi News that the House highly esteems Dr. B.
The Chiefs and Queen Mothers gathering at the airport in the early hours to welcome Dr. Bawumia attests to the high respect they hold for him.
Endorsements are a sign of increasing support from traditional rulers.
