Police in Wenchi, Bono Region, shot and killed a suspected armed robber during an early-morning gunfight on the Wenchi-Wa Highway.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:40 a.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2024, when a Police patrol team encountered four armed suspects at the scene of a robbery.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspects opened fire as the officers arrived. In response, the Police returned fire, fatally shooting one of the robbers while the remaining three fled into a nearby bush.
Items Recovered
The Police retrieved several items believed to be stolen, including:
- A locally manufactured single-barrel gun
- Six BB cartridges
- An undisclosed sum of money
- A student bag containing two Itel mobile phones and a power bank
Background
The Police patrol team was responding to reports of an armed robbery targeting passengers on the highway near Awisa, a farming community in the Wenchi Municipality.
Before the Police arrived, the suspects had reportedly attacked travelers in a Sprinter minibus and a Yutong bus, robbing them of their belongings.
Ongoing Investigation
A manhunt has been launched to capture the three suspects who escaped. Police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing to ensure the remaining culprits are brought to justice.
