A joyous wedding ceremony turned tragic in Akyem Anamase near Oda in the Eastern Region last Friday when Chief Inspector Godwin Beniba, the groom, passed away unexpectedly during the event.
Chief Inspector Beniba, who served as the Station Officer at the Anamase Police Station, collapsed shortly after arriving at the Anamase Hotel, where the wedding was set to take place.
Eyewitness accounts reveal that the groom, accompanied by his best men, was eagerly awaiting the arrival of his bride, Florence Debrah, who was preparing in one of the rooms at the venue. Upon entering the event space, the groom reportedly complained of dizziness. Moments later, he collapsed to the floor.
Guests rushed him to the nearby Anamase Clinic, but tragically, he was pronounced dead on arrival by medical personnel.
The heartbreaking news left hundreds of guests in shock and grief. Among the attendees were police personnel from Accra, Koforidua, Oda, Akyem Achiase, and other areas who had gathered to celebrate the union. Many wept openly, unable to come to terms with the sudden loss.
Preparations for the ceremony, including large quantities of food and drinks, went unused as the devastated guests departed the venue in sorrow.
The family of the deceased, who had traveled from his home region in the Northern Region, made arrangements for his body to be transported to the Oda Government Hospital morgue for autopsy and preservation.
By Saturday, the mood in Akyem Anamase was somber. Residents, still reeling from the tragic event, mourned the loss of Chief Inspector Beniba, casting a shadow over the normally festive atmosphere of the Christmas season.
