John Mahama Vows Accountability for Future Appointees

The 2024 flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has cautioned potential appointees in his prospective government, asserting that they will face consequences for any misconduct.

At the grand launch of the party’s campaign in Tamale, Northern Region, Mr. Mahama highlighted the need for modesty, honesty, hard work, and accountability from those who wish to serve in his administration.

Mr. Mahama emphasized that while his government would hold the previous administration accountable for any wrongdoing, it would also enforce strict accountability within its ranks. “As we hold the previous government accountable for wrongdoing, if you serve in the next John Mahama government, and you are accused of wrongdoing, you will also be punished and held accountable,” he stated.

Campaign Coordinator for Mr. Mahama, Professor Joshua Alabi, stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would have to peacefully hand over power if it loses. Prof. Alabi also reassured Ghanaians that the NDC is dedicated to safeguarding their votes.

John Mahama promised to remain truthful and avoid making unfulfillable promises as he campaigns for votes ahead of the December 7 polls. He acknowledged the challenges faced during his previous presidency but asserted that Ghana was making progress during his tenure.

Mr. Mahama pledged continued transparency and to build on the foundations laid during his previous administration if re-elected. He urged the public to vote for the NDC, expressing his readiness to serve the nation once more with renewed vigour and a clear vision for Ghana’s future.

“I’ve been out of government for eight years now. I did my best; I wouldn’t say things were perfect, but at least we were making progress. What I can promise you is that I will be truthful to you, I will never tell you lies, I will never tell you things I cannot do,” Mr. Mahama said.
