Alhaji Ben Abdallah Banda, the Presidential Coordinator for Zongo Development and Chairman of the Bawumia For President Zongo Campaign, has criticized former President John Mahama for allegedly failing to fulfill promises made to Zongo communities during his tenure.

Speaking on behalf of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Gaskiya Forum, Alhaji Banda accused Mahama of neglecting key development initiatives in these underserved areas, despite previous campaign pledges. According to Banda, Mahama’s leadership did little to address the social and economic challenges facing the Zongo communities, leaving many promises unfulfilled.

Banda argued that the NPP, under the leadership of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has made significant strides in advancing the development of Zongo communities, citing various infrastructure and social welfare projects initiated during their time in office.

The Gaskiya Forum, a platform within the NPP focused on outreach to Zongo communities, has used these claims to bolster support for the NPP in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election, highlighting the party’s commitment to improving the lives of marginalized groups.

Banda’s remarks come as both major political parties ramp up efforts to secure votes in Zongo communities, which have historically played a key role in Ghana’s elections.
