Adonten Senior High School, once considered the underdogs of the 2024 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), has defied all expectations by clinching a coveted spot in the quarter-finals. Their remarkable performance has signaled their readiness to compete for the ultimate prize.
Adonten SHS’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring. After battling through the regional qualifiers, they emerged victorious in the preliminary stage by outshining Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ SHS and Tolon SHS. Their resilience and determination earned them a spot in the one-eighth stage, where they faced even tougher competition.
In a thrilling contest, Adonten SHS rose to the challenge, defeating the seeded giants, Kumasi Secondary Technical School, to advance to the next round. Many anticipated a comfortable win for Kumasi Sec. Tech, but Adonten SHS had other plans, delivering a stunning display of intellectual prowess and determination.
West Africa Senior High School (WASS), who had narrowly made it to the one-eighth stage after a defeat by Mfantsiman Girls SHS in the preliminaries, also couldn’t match Adonten’s momentum.

From the start, Adonten SHS dominated, racking up an impressive 17 points in the first round, while WASS trailed close behind with 15 points, and Kumasi Sec. Tech struggled with just 6 points. The second round saw a close battle between Adonten and WASS, but Kumasi Sec. Tech continued to fall behind.
As the competition intensified, Adonten SHS maintained their focus and surged ahead in the third and fourth rounds. By the end of the fourth round, Adonten had amassed an impressive 41 points, while WASS trailed with 36 points and Kumasi Sec. Tech remained behind with 27 points.

In a thrilling climax, Adonten SHS cemented their victory, finishing with a commanding 50 points, leaving WASS and Kumasi Sec. Tech unable to close the gap. WASS finished with 36 points, and Kumasi Sec. Tech remained far behind with 27 points.
This unexpected triumph saw Adonten SHS not only eliminate the seeded Kumasi Sec. Tech but also confirm their place as strong contenders in the quarter-finals. Their inspiring journey from the regional stages to this remarkable victory has proven that they are not to be underestimated.
