Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus in Ghana’s Parliament, has urged citizens to hold New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament accountable at the polls after their absence at a recalled parliamentary session on Thursday, November 7.

The session, initiated by the NPP itself to address pressing national issues, could not proceed because of the absence of NPP MPs, which prevented Parliament from reaching the required quorum for decision-making. This led Speaker Alban Bagbin to adjourn the House indefinitely.

At a press conference following the adjournment, Dr. Ato Forson expressed strong criticism over the NPP MPs’ no-show, accusing them of causing a significant financial loss to the state. He highlighted that the recall process involves considerable costs, including travel and operational expenses borne by the taxpayer. According to him, these funds were wasted due to the NPP MPs’ failure to attend the session.

Dr. Forson encouraged Ghanaians to interpret this incident as a sign of poor leadership and urged voters to reflect on it in the upcoming elections. He stressed the need for accountability and called on the public to “sanction” NPP legislators by voting them out, emphasizing that responsible leadership should respect public resources and prioritize Parliament’s smooth operation.

“The NPP MPs have shown consistent disregard for the Ghanaian people by causing financial losses to the state,” Dr. Forson said. “This recall has cost the state, and they are abusing it. Ghanaians should vote them out for this conduct.
