The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, has commended President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration, claiming it has outperformed all previous governments in Ghana’s democratic era.
According to Osei Mensah, the Akufo-Addo-led administration has built on and surpassed the achievements of former President John Agyekum Kufuor. “There is no doubt that this government, led by Nana Akufo-Addo, has done excellently well, and I don’t think any government under the 1992 democratic dispensation has done better. Former President Kufuor did a lot, but this government has done more,” he remarked.
He further explained that Akufo-Addo’s administration has capitalized on the experiences and lessons from Kufuor’s tenure, identifying both strengths and weaknesses to improve governance.
Speaking to the media in Kumasi, Osei Mensah outlined ongoing efforts to fulfill the government’s mandate before the transfer of power. His presentation was part of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council’s infrastructure sector briefing, an initiative to provide transparency on the government’s accomplishments.
Osei Mensah highlighted numerous projects in the health sector, including the construction of five polyclinics, seven district and regional hospitals, and several “Agenda 111” facilities, many of which are nearing completion. He mentioned that the government is working to operationalize certain facilities before warranties on medical equipment expire, citing near-completion at Sewuah and Afari hospitals.
The minister also acknowledged infrastructure challenges, noting that the Ashanti Region ranks second to the Central Region for poor road networks. Efforts to improve roads include contracts for bridge repairs, trunk road construction, and inner-city road asphalt projects, with over two thousand of the five thousand contracted road projects already completed.
In addition to these infrastructure advancements, Osei Mensah highlighted the completion of a residential complex for Court of Appeal judges in Kumasi, alongside new court facilities and housing for district magistrates.
