Traders at the Mallam Atta Market in Accra have expressed their unwavering support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, commending his efforts to drive national development and improve their livelihoods.
On Tuesday morning, Dr. Bawumia visited the market as part of his campaign tour in the Greater Accra Region. He was met with a rousing reception, as traders—both men and women—paused their activities to greet him with cheers, songs, hugs, and chants endorsing his presidential bid.
Speaking to the media during the visit, many traders cited the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) initiatives, particularly the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, as a key reason for their support.
“We voted for Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP, and it has been beneficial because our children are benefiting from Free SHS. We want this progress to continue with Bawumia,” one trader shared.
Another trader added, “My two children are beneficiaries of Free SHS, so I will vote for the NPP and Dr. Bawumia.”
Several traders criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former President John Mahama, accusing them of inconsistency regarding Free SHS. “We cannot trust Mahama and the NDC with the future of our children. Their past comments on Free SHS show their true intentions,” one trader claimed.
The traders also praised improvements at the Mallam Atta Market, which they attributed to the NPP’s leadership.
“This market used to flood whenever it rained, making it hard to operate. Now, with better roads and facilities, our conditions have improved, and that’s why we will vote for the NPP,” another trader stated.
Dr. Bawumia’s visit highlighted his commitment to engaging with grassroots communities and addressing their concerns. The warm reception underscored his growing support among traders and market women in the region, bolstering his campaign momentum.
