Renowned Nigerian actor Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD) has voiced his support for Ghana’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, ahead of the country’s presidential election.

Speaking to Doreen Avio on the red carpet at the 2024 EMY Africa Awards in Accra, RMD encouraged Ghanaians to vote for a leader who prioritizes their welfare.

“I think they shouldn’t make the mistake that Africans often make. They should vote for the best man, the one who truly has their backs. Not everyone on the ballot does, but Ghanaians know who does, and they should vote for that person,” he said.

Expressing admiration for Mahama, the actor urged voters to give the former president another opportunity to lead.

“I like Mahama,” RMD stated, adding that although he has never met him personally, he has seen evidence of Mahama’s achievements. “Every time I pass through the airport he built, and from what many Ghanaian friends have told me about his work, I think you guys should give him another chance to see how far he can take things.”

Ghana heads to the polls on December 7, 2024, to elect a President and Members of Parliament. John Dramani Mahama, who served as President from 2013 to 2017, is making another bid for office after losing the 2020 election.

He faces competition from several candidates, including Mahamudu Bawumia (New Patriotic Party), Alan Kyerematen (Movement for Change), Christian Kwabena Andrews (Ghana Union Movement), and Hassan Ayariga (All People’s Congress), among others.

The 2024 elections are shaping up to be a pivotal moment for the nation, with candidates vying to address Ghana’s pressing economic and social challenges.
