The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) has appealed to the Ministry of Education to delay the reopening of Senior High Schools (SHSs) for the 2025 academic year until critical outstanding funds are released.
In a communiqué signed by CHASS’ National Secretary, Primus Baro, the group referred to previous communications dated September 20, 2024, and August 12, 2024, as well as unfulfilled promises made by the Minister of Education during a Zoom meeting on December 18, 2024.
CHASS raised concerns about the government’s arrears on essential items, including perishable goods, unpaid utility bills, and other operational necessities, which continue to hamper the effective management of SHSs nationwide.
The communiqué emphasized that these funds are crucial for schools to reopen as planned on January 3, 2025. Without them, school heads will struggle to provide quality education, maintain facilities, and ensure the well-being of students.
CHASS has called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education to urgently prioritize the disbursement of these funds to ensure a smooth reopening and uninterrupted operation of SHSs.
