President John Dramani Mahama has relieved Dr. Alexander Adusei of his duties as Director of the Keta Port, a project that has seen little progress since its inception.
Appointed in 2019 during former President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration, Dr. Adusei was responsible for overseeing the development of the port in the Volta Region. Despite the project’s announcement in 2018, when Keta was designated as the official site under an Executive Instrument, tangible development has yet to commence.
Although no official reason has been provided for Dr. Adusei’s dismissal, it is widely speculated that the lack of progress on the port’s development contributed to the decision. This stagnation has led to increasing frustration among residents and stakeholders in the Volta Region.
During the 2024 election campaign, President Mahama criticized the previous administration for what he termed a missed opportunity, noting that after eight years, “not even a single structure had been built for the port.”
In August 2024, six private investors expressed interest in partnering with the government to develop the facility; however, no firm agreements have been established to date.
The dismissal underscores the administration’s commitment to advancing the Keta Port project and addressing the concerns of the Volta Region’s residents.
