Legal practitioner and host of JoyNews’ Newsfile, Samson Lardy Anyenini, has expressed dissatisfaction with the Council of State’s performance, asserting that it has made minimal contributions to Ghana’s development. He described the Council’s historical performance as “very abysmal,” noting a lack of significant accomplishments.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Wednesday, February 12, Anyenini shared his long-standing concerns about the Council’s effectiveness. He emphasized that, over the years, the Council has become a “wasteful, needless, and useless” body.

Anyenini further argued that regional representatives on the Council should possess substantial experience and education. However, he observed that this standard has not been consistently met, alleging that individuals without the requisite qualifications have been appointed. He advocated for the selection of well-educated and experienced individuals as Council members and urged that the 11 presidential appointees be chosen without political influence.

This critique aligns with broader discussions about the relevance and composition of the Council of State, with some experts calling for its review or abolition due to perceived inefficiencies and politicization.
