Personnel of the Wa Municipal Office of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) narrowly escaped injury when a truck loaded with sawn lumber crashed into the fire station on Wednesday, February 12, 2025.

The incident occurred while officers from the Municipal and Regional Substations were gathered for a briefing ahead of a scheduled simulation exercise at Wa Kejetia Market the following day.

As the Benz truck, registered GT8045C, attempted to reverse, it lost control and rammed into the fire station, forcing officers to flee for safety. The impact damaged part of the building, a lamp pole, and slightly affected the stationed fire engine.

Assistant Divisional Officer Grade 1 (ADOI) Imran Iddrisu, the Acting Municipal Fire Commander, recounted that he and his team were in front of the station when they saw the truck heading toward a nearby shop to offload. However, the driver missed his turn and, while reversing, experienced a mechanical failure that rendered his brakes ineffective.

Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the full extent of the damage and prevent future occurrences.
