SSNIT Board Chair Elizabeth Ohene

Prince Henry from the NDC has criticized SSNIT Board Chair Elizabeth Ohene for the sudden cancellation of the sale of SSNIT-owned hotels. He claims the decision shows poor management and a lack of transparency, which has damaged public trust in SSNIT. Henry believes that Ohene should resign to restore confidence in the organization.

On July 13, 2024, Ohene signed a letter canceling the sale of a 60% stake in four SSNIT hotels to a private hotel owned by Bryan Acheampong, the Minister of Food and Agriculture. This decision followed Rock City Hotel pulling out of the deal due to opposition.

Despite approval from the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA), there were plans for a strike by organized labor on July 15, 2024, over the issue.

Henry argues that Ohene’s continued role as Board Chair is not acceptable, suggesting that the cancellation reflects poor oversight and leadership. He is concerned about the lack of transparency and accountability in the process and believes it undermines the integrity of SSNIT’s management.

Henry emphasized that the initial plan to sell the hotels was supposed to improve SSNIT’s finances. He urged Ghanaians to trust the next NDC administration to better manage SSNIT’s assets.
