A Nissan Pickup belonging to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Binduri Constituency was set ablaze by unidentified individuals on Monday, July 22. The incident took place at the residence of Constituency Chairman Samuel Ayaago in Atuba, Binduri District.
Eyewitnesses reported that between 9:00 pm and 10:00 pm, three masked men on two motorbikes fired shots at the front of Mr. Ayaago’s house. They then poured a liquid, believed to be petrol, on the vehicle with registration number GX 4164–17, causing it to catch fire and be destroyed. Citi News noted that this attack is part of a series of similar incidents that occurred in the Zebilla and Pusiga constituencies in June this year.
The attackers targeted NPP party vehicles and posters featuring the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. The vehicle was reportedly used by Abdulia Abanga, Member of Parliament for the area and Deputy Minister for Local Government, for his campaign activities.
During a visit to the scene, Mr. Abanga expressed regret over the incident and urged law enforcement to take swift action to apprehend the culprits. He also called on the constituents, especially NPP members, to remain calm while the police investigate the matter.
