President John Dramani Mahama has enacted significant leadership changes at the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT). He has appointed Kwesi Afreh Biney as the new Director-General and Adam Sulley as the Deputy Director-General in charge of Operations and Benefits.
These appointments follow the dismissal of Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo from his role as Director-General. Additionally, the contracts of his three deputies have been terminated:
- Kwame Adu-Darkwa, Deputy Director-General for Finance and Administration
- Juliana Kpedekpo, Deputy Director-General for Operations and Benefits
- Nana Serwah Bonsu Amoako, Deputy Director-General for Investment and Development
This leadership overhaul is part of a series of changes at SSNIT. In April 2024, then-President Nana Akufo-Addo replaced Dr. John Ofori Tenkorang with Osafo-Maafo as Director-General. Osafo-Maafo, son of former Presidential Advisor Yaw Osafo-Maafo, assumed leadership during a period marked by multiple resignations, including that of Deputy Director-General for Finance and Administration, Michael Addo. His tenure also saw the reassignment of Pearl Nana Ama Darko from SSNIT to the Ghana Revenue Authority as Commissioner for Support Services. Juliana Kpedekpo, who succeeded Darko at SSNIT, is now among those whose contracts have been revoked under the new administration.
These changes reflect the administration’s commitment to restructuring SSNIT’s leadership to enhance its operations and service delivery.
