Dr Mahamudu Bawumia NPP.
At a campaign rally in Wa East, Dr. Bawumia underscored the critical role of farming in ensuring food security and reducing food prices. He promised to support farmers with essential resources to boost their productivity.
Dr. Bawumia outlined his vision to:
- Enhance Productivity: Implement advanced farming practices from Brazil and China to improve yields in Ghana. He highlighted that while Brazil and China achieve maize yields of 10 and 12 tons per acre respectively, Ghana’s average is only four tons per acre.
- Support with Resources: Provide farmers with tractors and access to credit to facilitate better harvests.
- Establish Super Aggregators: Create systems to purchase produce directly from farmers to ensure fair prices and reduce food waste.
- Innovate Soil Fertility: Transition from traditional fertilisers to lime, which enhances soil fertility. Dr. Bawumia noted that lime is available in Ghana and will be used to improve agricultural productivity.
By drawing on successful international practices and introducing new support systems, Dr. Bawumia aims to significantly boost the agricultural sector in Ghana.
