Ghanaian international Jordan Ayew came off the bench to deliver a dramatic late winner for Leicester City in their 3-2 comeback victory over Southampton on Saturday, October 19.
Ayew’s decisive goal came in the 98th minute, securing Leicester’s second league win of the season. The match had started well for Southampton, who took control early with two goals in the opening 28 minutes. Cameron Archer opened the scoring just eight minutes in, followed by a second goal from Nigerian midfielder Joe Aribo, putting the Saints comfortably ahead by halftime.
However, the second half marked a shift in momentum. Five minutes after coming on, Leicester’s Abdul Fatawu Issahaku made an immediate impact, setting up Facundo Buonanotte to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Ghanaian winger raced down the byline before delivering a perfect cross for Buonanotte to finish.
Ayew entered the match in the 69th minute, replacing Bilal El Khannouss. Shortly after, Leicester were awarded a penalty in the 73rd minute, which Jamie Vardy calmly converted to level the score at 2-2.
As the game appeared to be heading for a draw, Ayew seized his moment. In the 98th minute, he received a pass from Harry Winks and made no mistake, firing the ball into the net to complete Leicester’s stunning comeback.
The goal marked Ayew’s first Premier League strike for Leicester and his second goal for the club since joining from Crystal Palace. His late heroics ensured the Foxes claimed a hard-fought 3-2 victory, lifting spirits and momentum for the team early in the season.
